PROJECT
(STATEMENT)
Can a place be felt before it is seen? NÜWA is a project that explores how graphic design can translate the essence of a place—its landscape, culture, and emotion—into a complete visual and sensory experience. Set in the southern region of China, Yangshuo, Guilin is a region known for its karst mountains, rivers, and fading tourism, the project imagines the boutique resort as a space for immersion.
The visual identity draws from the natural and cultural characteristics of Guilin, using a system of primarily circles and squares inspired by rice terraces, mountain erosion, and traditional Chinese patterns. A restrained color and material palette, reflective of the region’s textures and light, is applied across wayfinding, menus, and other printed materials.
With the inclusion of a bar and dining concept, Kunlun, the project extends the identity through a more expressive lens while maintaining harmony with the core brand. All visual and graphic elements are compiled into a brand and experience book with the aim of capturing the full atmosphere of NÜWA without being there.
