PROJECT

(STATEMENT)

As someone who genuinely enjoys the process of planning travel—digging into destinations, curating experiences, and mapping out itineraries—I began to notice that not everyone shares the same enthusiasm. In fact, through conversations with friends, classmates, and fellow travelers, I realized that for many people, trip planning feels overwhelming, tedious, and incredibly time-consuming. They often felt lost in a sea of tabs, screenshots, and half-saved links, unsure where to start or how to bring it all together.

This contrast between my enjoyment of planning and others’ frustration made me curious: why is something so central to the travel experience such a source of stress? I started exploring how people plan their trips, what tools they use, and where they struggle. What emerged was a clear gap in the travel space—a need for a tool that could offer structure without rigidity, discovery without overwhelm, and personalization without the heavy lift.

That insight became the foundation for Loomi: a curated, AI-powered travel planning app designed to make itinerary building effortless, inspiring, and intuitive. Loomi was created not just to simplify planning, but to elevate it—offering users a seamless way to uncover high-quality, niche experiences and bring their trips to life with ease and confidence.

In conducting market research and competitive analysis for Loomi, I evaluated leading travel planning platforms including Wanderlog, Roadtrippers, Trip.com, and TripIt to understand their strengths, limitations, and areas of overlap. While many of these apps offer itinerary generation, booking support, or collaborative features, few prioritize highly curated, niche local experiences or deeply personalized recommendations.

RESEARCH
(USER PERSONAS & RESEARCH)

I conducted user interviews to understand why many travelers find trip planning stressful and to uncover specific pain points, habits, and unmet needs that existing tools fail to address.
Convenience Over Extensive Planning
Most users focus on the basics (flights, accommodations, key activities) and prefer quick, structured itinerary creation, but level of detail varies depending on the type of trip (e.g., domestic vs. international, solo vs. group).

Finding local experiences is a major challenge
Users struggle to discover authentic, niche activities beyond mainstream attractions and rely heavily on friends, social media (TikTok, YouTube, vlogs), and online reviews for recommendations.

Route optimization and itinerary organization are highly desired
Travelers want a tool that organizes their schedule efficiently, factors in travel time between activities, and offers a visual map showing proximity to planned destinations.
