PROJECT
(STATEMENT)
House of Hu is the luxury rebrand of the iconic Chinese medicine, Tiger Balm. Over the years, the Tiger Balm ointment has remained a staple in many Asian households, however due to the changing of trends and preferences, the market has shifted and Tiger Balm has been branded as “old-fashioned”, sitting at the bottom shelf in pharmacies and stores. This offered the opportunity to transform this culturally rich brand into something completely different and desirable whilst still maintaining its traditional essence and heritage.
The new logo is variable and adjustable to fit the product packaging while being inspired by the the Chinese character for tiger ‘虎’. The strokes for the character was taken and placed in a grid to conform to the gridded design often seen on traditional Chinese medicine packaging.
The rebrand of Tiger Balm extends its original product line into personal care products that highlights the high quality and natural sourcing of their ingredients.
